Pickleweed Park Community Center
San Rafael, CA
The Canal Family Support Services' Kids Club provides educational assistance and enrichment activities that support the cultural, physical and social development of youth in San Rafael’s Canal District. The majority of children served by Kids Club come from families who are struggling with poverty, limited English skills and/or marginalized legal status. Clients are provided with crucial support for this population through activities that enrich the lives of young children while focusing on preventing at-risk behaviors. These activities build self-esteem and provide children with the skills and confidence to participate and contribute fully in their community and the world.
The after-school program provides safe, supervised and appropriate activities including homework help, individual tutoring and enrichment classes. During the summer, Kids Club runs a Summer Enrichment Program offering creative and fun activities such as physical fitness and nutrition, music, art, swimming, field trips and group team building.
Canal Family Support Services provide additional assistance to families through one-on-one meetings, parent-education workshops and information and referral services to facilitate access to counseling and outside resources all of which are aimed at helping families gain and maintain self-sufficiency and healthy family functioning. The multi-cultural staff is sensitive to a spectrum of ethnic backgrounds and is dedicated to helping support parents and their children.
