Star Community Home

After a hugely successful first year, funding was extended to the Star Community Home, a project of Catholic Charities CYO and to provide temporary shelter and support services to homeless mothers and their children.  Marc and Lynne Benioff and spearheaded a campaign to keep Star Community Home open for another year. With their leadership and the generosity of our entire community of support, Star Community Home will remain open so that more families can successfully transition into stable housing.

Star Community Home is a beacon of hope and opportunity for San Francisco’s homeless families that serves mothers and their children by giving them a safe and stable place to live while developing a plan to secure family stability and receiving intensive support to move to permanent housing.

More than 85% of homeless families across the nation are headed by single mothers. For these families, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, earning a living wage and maintaining family cohesion represents a difficult balancing act at best, often made impossible when compounded by homelessness.

Since Star Community Home opened in January of 2012, we have helped 26 mothers and their children begin new lives in stable homes.
